Sump Pump & Emergency Backup Systems Are you experiencing water appearing in the middle of your basement floor or along the seams of your basement walls, but can’t figure out where it’s coming from?  Are your foundation walls dry but you still find water on the floor along the perimeter of your basement? Chances are you have a higher than normal water table below the concrete floor, creating hydrostatic pressure which is causing moisture and water to make its way to the surface. This is known as “capillary action” and happens over time when the water table rises but the water has no where to go. The problem usually arises with the spring thaw or during heavy or continuous rainfalls. A point to remember is water will always look for the path of least resistance.  To solve this problem a proper sump basin and sump pump needs to be installed. The installation involves breaking out a small area of the basement floor approximately 2 feet in circumference and digging a pit approximately 2 � feet deep. The sump basin and pump are then placed in the pit to collect and discharge water from under the house. The sump pump now becomes the path of least resistance to rising water, which in turn relieves the buildup of hydrostatic pressure under the basement floor eliminating future problems of water making its way to the surface. In addition to installing a sump pump we also recommend installing an Emergency Backup System for times when power outages occur. The backup pump is installed in the same basin just above the initial sump pump and is powered by a marine battery that provides up to 30 hours of operation. The Emergency Backup System is equipped with reverse battery/short circuit protection, an advanced charging system that automatically maintains maximum charge at all times and has an audible alarm built in to alert the homeowner of emergency pump operation.
